| The Administrative Office of the Governor of the |
| Western Regions was located in the City of Wulei in |
| the Western Han Dynasty and it moved to the City of |
| Qiuci (now Kuqa) in the Eastern H~,n Dynasty. The |
| duty of the Administrative Office of the Governor of |
| the Western Regions was to issue and carry out the |
| central government's policies, keeping the Silk Road |
| open.The Han Dynasty, for the sake of defence, began |
| to build and use a beacon tower. According to the |
| historical records, there was along the border linea beacon
tower every 5 Ii, a fort every 10 Ii, a |
| fortress. |
